Stephen Petronio Company arrives at Hudson Hall with three signature, show-stopping Petronio works: the recently premiered Hardness 10, titled in reference to the diamond as the hardest gem, which marks Petronio’s third collaboration with Nico Muhly and first with fashion designer Patricia Field; an excerpt from Underland (2003), inspired by the dark, sensual music of Australian legend, Nick Cave; and Bud Suite (2006), which muses on the melodic pop-tunes of Rufus Wainwright. Also on the program is Steve Paxton’s virtuosic and sinewy Excerpt from Goldberg Variations (1986), a Bessie-nominated work from the company’s Bloodlines project, a series of revivals of works by the titans of postmodern dance. With the recent establishment of the Petronio Residency Center (PRC) in nearby Round Top, NY, Hudson Hall is delighted to welcome Petronio’s artistry as a choreographer in tandem with PRC’s inaugural season.
